Vitor Marcal, a North Shore lifeguard and one of the first guys who was foiling around 18 years ago when Laird and a few others were first doing it, was the first guy who asked me to use my expertise in design to make him a foil board with low drag when the board would come down off the foil.
The first thing I thought of that landed on water well was a seaplane. So I did a little research and shaped him a board with a similar bottom shape as a seaplane and that did the trick for him. Now, almost 20 years later I’ve resurrected that shape on the wing board models.
Not only do these boards re-direct the rider back up onto the foil with little or no drag when they touch down but they take off much easier and faster too. This unique bottom shape, along with the correct angle beveled rails, make for very low drag and extra lift as soon as the board has a little bit of forward motion.
I don’t do gimmicks on my shapes. All of my designs and shapes are proven, hydrodynamic wonders.
