The Sturgeon Moon Paddle event is in the books and it was another amazing paddle. Our dedicated community of paddlers joined us for yet another spectacular celestial event.

Our evening began with our meet-up at 101 Surf Sports in San Rafael and the group assembled for the Skipper's Meeting and everyone was brimming with excitement for the evening paddle. Thanks by the way to paddler Kim Charlesworth for grabbing these photos.

Our paddlers came from far and wide. The farthest paddlers on this evening were from Toronto and joined the group for a magical night on the bay in NorCal.

It was a mixed group of paddlers on SUP's and kayaks and everyone donned our glow-in-the-dark necklaces and watercraft that were lit up to provide us with a safe and family-friendly evening on the water.

Our group hit the water and paddled up the canal to the opening of San Pablo Bay to loiter and converse at the #7 channel marker as we waited for the moonrise.

The day was extremely warm with bright blue skies and little fluffy white clouds that turned into glowing red cotton candy-colored clouds along with a brisk breeze that chilled the approaching nighttime skies. As the sun faded behind us we were greeted with a long fog bank that blanketed the East Bay as our watercraft faced the Eastern skies. The anticipation of the upcoming celestial event was building...

Around 9 pm the clouds and fog bank glowed in an amber haze and the gigantic Sturgeon Moon began to present itself and grow into a fantastic sight.

Within the period of 10 minutes, the sky began to glow as the full moon pierced the fog and clouds and the conversation went silent as everyone drank in the majestic sky and full moon in front of us.

The wind dropped, the water went flat and everyone just marveled at the beautiful moonrise. One could not have asked for a better evening.

Our group was joined by Cort Larned, the owner of 101 Surf Sports, the guy behind all of these amazing events, piloting his Grand Banks boat known as the Grand Magic. The name of his boat says it all as it drifted past our intrepid group and provided a nice layer of protection and company as everyone enjoyed the evening.

After some howling at the moon and high fives, everyone paddled safely back to the shop with our glowing headlamps lighting up the canal in the pitch-black evening to recount the amazing nighttime event as our heater in the shop was warming the paddlers up before they went their separate ways...and this one didn't disappoint. Everyone is so excited for our next Full Moon Paddle event on September 29th.

If you want to join us for an amazing evening with even more amazing people, sign up now because these events sell out fast. The next Full Moon Paddle Tour is set for the Harvest Moon on September 29th.

Thanks to everyone who attended the paddle tonight. Our paddle community is amazing and we want you to join us!

See you soon and paddle on....
