Outrigger Canoe Lessons On San Francisco Bay
We are happy to announce our Outrigger Canoe Lessons here at our location on the water in sunny San Rafael.
The lesson will cover proper paddling techniques for OC-1 and OC-2 canoes as well as how to rig them for action. Our instructor will also teach basic techniques for reading the water conditions and understanding the weather to ensure a safe journey.
You will learn how to recover from a capsize, also known as Huli, and do a re-mount back onto the canoe. We will focus on proper paddling techniques so you have an efficient stroke to maximize your speed and glide.
The lesson is $150 for 90 minutes.
You can bring your own outrigger canoe or use one of ours! Same price, no discount with your own boat.
Perfect for beginner, intermediate or advanced paddlers!
Wear fast-drying, synthetic clothing or neoprene (based on the weather).
We book these lessons based on mutual availability. Please call ahead or email us to book a session soon!
About your instructor, Les Scanlan. Les first started paddling in SoCal in 1977 with a cousin, Ben Tai Tai & Vernon Howe who introduced me to the Polynesian sport of outrigger paddling. He paddled briefly through the 80s but in 1992 he really caught the paddling "bug" and has been paddling non-stop since. A waterman by nature, Les has grown up in and around the ocean all of his life. With an extensive background in 6-man canoe the last few years have seen Les focusing on the OC1 and sharing that with others.
