Tahoe Paddle Racing Is Back!
If you have never paddled the crystal clear blue waters of Lake Tahoe this is the summer to make it happen. With the pandemic fading into the rearview mirror, the Lakes race and event scene is bursting back to life.
This year's season kicks off with the Tahoe Waterman race series. Run by Jay & Anik Wild these events are based on using competition as an excuse to have fun. First up is the July 29th Paddle Jam which this year features a new technical course for SUPs and Prone Paddleboards and a long-distance race for the fast craft. Then August 26th the Kaspsian Downwind race takes center stage. If you never thought of Lake Tahoe as a downwind spot this race can certainly change your mind. The series concludes with a September 15-17th paddle across the lake. Yes all 22 miles worth in what is the longest inland SUP race in the world. Racing starts at El Dorado Beach and finishes at Mourelatos Lakeshore. More info on Tahoe Waterman Paddle Racing here
We are beyond stoked to see the Tahoe Nalu back on the calendar. In what is the longest-running race on the Lake the event this year sees Bob Pearson taking over where Ernie Brassard left off. Over the years the Tahoe Nalu has been the preeminent Paddle Festival with Outrigger Canoe, Surfski, Stand Up & Prone Paddleboards all gathering to make a party look like a paddle race. If you have to pack up the family and pick just one mountain race to do this is the one.Ta-Hoe Nalu info here
While it's not quite Tahoe it is about halfway there so we do throw in a plug for the August Paddle Splash in Sacramento Lake Natoma. This event is a great tune-up for the Tahoe Nalu which comes the weekend after. The 2-day Paddlesplash is the most family-friendly event of the year and proceeds go to benefit the NorCal SUP Groms.
