Paddle Under The Strawberry Moon in June

Full moon kayak tour on san francisco Bay

Full moon kayak tour on san francisco Bay

Our last moonlight paddle tour on San Francisco Bay was such a smashing good time we will be adding more all summer long. Next up is the Strawberry Moon on June 3rd.

What's it like to go on a kayak or stand up paddleboard moonlight paddle tour with 101 Surf Sports? Check out this write-up from our trusty guide from the Flower Moon Paddle Tour on May 5th then book your trip to join in on our June 3rd event.

Last May 5th was a wonderful celestial event that was long anticipated by our intrepid group of paddlers who joined the team of 101 Surf Sports for a nighttime paddle on the San Rafael Canal.

The paddle almost didn’t happen as looming rain clouds threatened to put a little rain upon the heads of our group of paddlers, but alas, they drove from far and wide (some through pouring rain) to give it a roll of the dice. And it worked out perfectly! The skies opened up to the East where the Flower Moon was set to rise and the dark and foreboding rain clouds remained at our backs as we all paddled towards San Pablo Bay.

Our paddlers were a mixture of all skill levels and ages on various paddle craft. We had a trio of SIC Bullets, another trio of Jimmy Lewis paddle boards as well as some sexy Infinity Blackfish boards in our pack. Representing the kayak world were two Hobie pedal kayaks that were festooned in Christmas lights for the evening paddle and an Ocean Kayak double kayak that was captained by two giggling British girls.

The water was absolute glass by the time we paddled to the opening of the bay so we took advantage of the calmness to frolic in the open bay until it started getting dark, we then turned on our headlamps and the glow sticks that were attached to our paddle craft added a little bit of an extra glow of warmth to the brisk evening.

As our anticipation of the moon's rise grew, we started checking our apps for the exact time of the full moon. And we waited. And waited. As luck would have it, the moon had gotten gobbled up into a passing bank of clouds and as a group, we made the decision to scurry back to the warmth of the shop to enjoy some hot tea and high fives for our exciting nighttime adventure as well all feel as though we dodged some potentially wet and windy conditions…only to make lemonade out of lemons, and push off into the night in what felt so surreal to be paddling on the black water with the ambient glow from our headlamps lighting up the smiles on our faces. Winning!
