Rainy Day Paddle Race Wraps Up Winter Race Season
"Rain or shine we are on the starting line" is our shop mantra and today's light showers rewarded those who had the spirit to tackle them.
With a hokey pokey rain forecast (put the rain in, take the rain out) all week it was far from certain what weather would actually greet the fleet of over 50 paddlers up for the challenge. The skippers meeting and race starts took place under cool gray skies and light rain. As soon as the starting gun souonded however the rain went in to hiding with only a shower or two sprinkling over the racers. The upside of the slow moving low pressure system however was the near windless conditions across the entire bay.
Once again it was a diverse fleet of Outrigger Canoe, Kayaks, Surfski's, prone and stand up paddleboards all racing together on San Francisco Bay,
Paddle of the day went to Steven Losorelli who threw down a sub one hour time on the long course on a plastic surfski. That is hauling tail. Paddle of the day was a close fought honor however with birthday girl Stephanie Taylor setting the new double surfski record on the short course with her son Kasen pulling hard with his mom all the way through the finish line.
