Water Rat Paddles Long And Far To Raise Money For Petaluma Float House

Petaluma Float House

Petaluma Float House

We could not be more excited for the town of Petaluma, and the entire paddling community, for the construction now underway of the new Petaluma Float House & Small Craft Center. With that said we could use your help to get this dream turned in to one awesome water sports reality.

If you were not aware of what the town of Petaluma was up to then feast your eyes (above) on the planned infrastructure set to be ready, funding dependent, for the Spring of 2020. It is one incredible facility. The community has pitched in far and wide to make this happen and one local water rat, Nicholas Goulden, is doing more than his part.

Nicholas (pictured at right and at bottom) had the idea to turn one of the planets most grueling paddle races in to a fundraiser to help get this project over the finish line. When we say grueling we mean it. The race is Westminster International Canoe Marathon in England and is run over the Easter weekend. The race goes 125 miles over four days and includes 77 portages! This classic paddling race has been run since 1948 and it has a long tradition of charity that you can now be part of. Your donations will help buy much needed docks and be put towards enhanced public access for all.

Nicholas has been paddling the Petaluma River for 25+ years as well as paddled and raced throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. As an avid paddler his goal is to leave the paddling community a crown jewel for water sports in the North Bay. With many of the pilings already driven we just need the communities final push for help in making it happen.

The Petaluma Small Craft Center will be hosting events for many years to come and we can't wait to see it happen. Besides the obvious healthful benefits, it is essential for the preservation and restoration of our waterways, that more families and children have the access and enjoyment of the water. Whether providing boat rentals, summer watersports camps for kids, or outreach and after school programs, The Floathouse, in the Turning Basin, will help make every day a special one for decades to come.
