2018 Winter Paddle Racing Season Wraps Up

Our last race of the season was met with dark clouds and some peekaboo sunshine. With a small but hearty crew of Surfski’s, Stand Up Paddleboards, a prone paddleboard, and a dog powered kayak we took advantage of a nice weather window that left the paddlers feeling they had a bit of the luck of the Irish with them.

A light zephyr at the starting line morphed into a nice breeze by the time the paddlers hit the mid-way point on the long course. The sea’s kicked up making for a nice little challenge paddle to wrap up the season with. We have to be profusely thankful to the weather gods this year who gave us great racing weather all winter long. Our motto is rain or shine we are on the starting line, but we can work with what ever mother nature will let us have.

The video above is our bike-cam shot of the start. Watch as Adrian Carpente takes off on his way to the overall win in the Surfski class. Adrian is a recent trasnplant to the Bay Area from Spain. You'll probably be seeing a lot of him around the areas races - mainly from behind.

We have to say thanks to our hospitable hosts here at Westpoint Harbor. We are truly blessed to have such an incredible venue to share with the paddling community.  We look forward to a fun summer and we are happy to announce our 2018/19 Season race dates below. Our goal for next year is more kids (who race for free on the short course) and more SUP Surf Board division racers so look for some fun incentives geared to making that happen.

Thanks to all who raced this year and to all the volunteers who helped as well.
