Irish Jig At Paddle Race

With rain in the past,and rain in the forecast, we counted ourselves lucky once again to have blue skies and only the slightest of breezes. (pictured the family that paddles together.....)

It was a smaller than normal crew but one that saw all classes represented. Prone Paddleboards, Surfski, Outrigger Canoe, Kayaks and SUP made this a model of diversity and inclusion. When in fact it was an Irish takedown! All the way from the Emerald Isle David Horkan (pictured below David Horkan at the finishing line) bested a recovering Kenny Howell on the long course by a scant 8 second margin. 

We ran the normal long and short courses only after fueling up the fleet on Hint Water and Kind Bars - Thanks to both companies for their long standing support of these events. Patrick Alteri was kind enough to bring, and let everyone ride, the latest Rayvolt Electric Bike. The ‘oohs’ and ‘aahs’ of looking at its killer lines in the parking lot were only accentuated by the 'OH MY’s'after riding it. Let us know if you want one too. 

Paddle of the day goes to Julia Michelovia who tackled the short course in her first ever race and has the hat to prove it. Nice work Julia!

It was also nice to test our dock for the first time for adaptive paddling. The low freeboard of the dock Westpoint Owner Mark Sanders installed makes it near ideal for getting wheel chair users in to the boats. We hope the efforts of adaptive paddler Barry Mckeowen will inspire others to get paddling. We are just stoked to help make that happen.
