Winter Paddle Racing Season Set To Roll for 2017/18 Season
The 2017/18 Winter Paddle Racing Season is more action packed than ever with new races, and new formats. These races are designed to maximize fun for first time racers and focus on family fun.
Sure, we’ll still have our elite athletes tackling the 6 mile-long course, but the 2 mile short course is where the fun is to be had. With a family oriented apres’ paddle picnic as part of the entrance fee our races are good times for all. All those on Outrigger Canoes, Prone or Stand Up Paddleboards, Kayaks, or Surfski’s that is. In fact, if the rider faces forward, and it uses a paddle, you can race it at our Winter Paddle Race Series.
Why race in the winter? The weather is better that’s why. For those that have lived here long enough you know the secret we veteran paddlers do. There is no wind in the winter. While the days may be shorter the temperatures are not much colder.
This year we are rolling out a new winter Sprint Racing and Buoy Challenge. These are low frills, low cost family fun events. For $10 you can register to run as many laps as you want on our timed 200m sprint course. No Pre-Registration, No Prizes, and Flexible Start Times make for low pressure fun. Come set your personal best and then try to beat it. For only $10 more ($20 total) you can use our boards and paddle too. And these are no ordinary boards. All Stars, Sprints, X, RS and more!
Registration for our normal races is $30 for registering online by Thursday the night before racing or $40 for day of registration. These races have been known to sell out as we limit the racing to 101 competitors. Don’t risk it and sign up early.
All kids under the age of 16 race free on our short course. There is no need to sign them up online. Just bring the kids in on race day and we’ll get them registered. If your child does not have a board than you can rent one for $25+ tax. Lunch is included for the kids as well. Lunch tickets can be purchased for $20 for any non-registered racers. If the kids are ready for the long course than they are ready to register!
In fact, anyone can rent a raceboard. You’ll be offered the option for $30 to add a raceboard to your day. That includes a carbon paddle and life jacket. We have SUP 14, SUP 12’6, Prone, Kayak, and Surfski’s available for rent.
