Spectacular Moonlight Paddle As We Luck Out On Weather

We've had nice moonlight paddles before but the combination of a heat wave along with a color refracting layer of fog made for one our best ever night time adventure paddles.

With large fleet of stand up paddlers and kayakers up for a night time excursion on San Francisco Bay we were stoked to have plenty of gear for everyone. While kayaking can be the better strategic call for novice paddlers the excellent weather saw quite a few take the stand up paddleboards out for moon-lit ride.

It takes a lot of variables to line up to make for the perfect night so lets just run down the list of things that blessed us this night. First up was the warm weather. While we normally encourage warmer attire most of the paddlers were in short sleeves and board shorts. The tide too can play spoiler. With a strong out-going tide it can make for very hard paddle home. But not tonight a light 1 knot incoming tide that was actually helping the paddlers come home.(pictured below Mt Tamalpais sets the back drop as the fleet heads out)

Wind can be another challenge. Tonight however, the light winds made for near perfect paddling conditions. Last but not least the moon needs to rise before it gets too dark and cold. Tonight we were again set up to near perfection with the moon rising just as the sun set. Nature dealt us an extra bonus with a light layer of fog refracting the moon light as the moon rose making for some cool colors. Our photos do not do it justice with with light purples and pinks casting a gorgeous glow over our fleet of lucky paddlers.

After the paddle the group retired to the 101 Surf Sports picnic area for some apres paddle action. We have done our homework looking for the next night where these variables may just line up again.
