Paddleboarding To Give Kids A Shot At The Arts

With the ever tightening budgets of our local schools Art programs at most schools have been decimated if not removed all together. Well a group of local ladies had decided to fix that and they are using paddles to do it.

Local Fairfax resident, Gina Morley has organized a Ladies Morning Stand Up Paddleboarding group that is perfect for first time or experienced paddlers. The group uses gear donated by 101 Surf Sports and then takes all the proceeds from rental fees and gives them to the Yes foundation whose mission is restoring Arts programs to our schools. The fee for the event is only $20 bucks and you can paddle as long as you want. Those that have never paddled before will receive free introductory lessons. Just arrive a little early to get your paddle on.

This is a fun social paddle but getting a nice little work out is simply unavoidable. Super stable boards make for a fun day on the water. With the warmer tranquil waters of San Rafael no wetsuits are needed and most of the ladies are wearing the same thing they would wear to a yoga class.

The Yes foundation programs provide all children access to a complete education, including meaningful and sustained exposure to the arts and other vibrant educational programs. That’s something that’s easy to get behind.
