San Francisco Bay's First Ever Paddleboard Running Race Dualthlon
We are always into trying new things. How about you? Then make sure to check out the inaugural SUP Run Championships at McNears Beach in San Rafael on October 29th.
This is not your same ol’ paddle race but rather a dualthlon that brings together Stand Up Paddleboarding and Running into one unique event. Centered on McNears beach the action will start with a 4 Mile SUP race that transitions immediately in to a 4 mile running race. The winner is the first to finish both legs. With Women's and Men’s divisions including Open Age Group and Masters (56+) categories this is going to be a totally new challenge for all.
We've just added a relay division. One division for men, women, or mixed. Race on 12'6 and only $40 for two people.
The festivities start with a pre-party at 101 Surf Sports on Friday Evening October 28th. You need not be a registered competitor to enjoy the party so come on down. More Party Info Here.
The paddling portion of the event will lead things off with two laps around Rat Rock. The multi-lap race format will make this a spectator friendly event. So invite all your friends to cheer you on. The running portion will also be in a lap format with a circuit course inside McNears Beach. The course will be about 50% trail and 50% paved. This includes a nice 1/4 mile+ stretch of running on a sandy beach.
All registration must be done on-line prior to Thursday October 27th so that preparations can be made. There will be no race day registration. Racing divisions are 14ft for men and 12’6 for women. You are welcome to race any board in the men's or women's divisions as long as its shorter than the division maximum. For example a 12’6 is welcome to race in the mens 14’ division however it will be scored a 14’. Same goes for the gals with the maximum length of 12'6". Prone paddleboards are welcome to register under that same set up.
Entrance is limited to the first 100 paddlers so don't miss out and sign up before registration closes on Thursday October 27th at midnight. The registration fee is $40 and there will be no on-site day of event registration. There is an additional $10 per car charge to park.
The event is being held at one of Marin's crown jewel parks, McNears Beach in San Rafael. With rolling grass hills, and an ample picnic area that nestle right up to the shoreline it's an iconic & comfortable back drop for the days activities. Pictured below is our event staging area.
Board rentals for racers are available. During the registration process you will be prompted if you would like to add a board rental. The board, life jacket, and paddle will be delivered to the race site. After registering then call 101 Surf Sports to pick out the best board for your ability level. Register first before calling 415-524-8492 to pick out your board.
All Registrations are final. No refunds. We will likely race rain or shine unless safety is an issue.
