Kicking Off Season 4 Of The 101 Surf Sports Paddle Race Series
Yes it's been four years since our first race series took to the water. This years events look to once again focus on family fun and elite racing bundled up in to one special day.
This years action includes racing in Prone, Stand Up Paddleboard, Kayak, Outrigger Canoe, and Surfski divisions. It's a pretty inclusive scene as long as your paddlecraft has you in the forward facing position than bring it!
Key to your success this year will be to REGISTER ONLINE EARLY. Due to the popularity of the event we are strictly limiting participation to 101 Paddlers. While we'd love to have unlimited attendance it simply is too many people for our race course to operate safely and smoothly. You risk "total rejection and peer group alienation" should you not sign up online and show up onsite as paddler #102.
Racing at 101 Surf Sports is a more relaxed fun affair that is known as much for the apres paddle atmosphere as it is for the racing. If youve never raced before our 4 race series is the perfect time to try stand up paddleboard racing on San Francisco Bay. The 2 mile short course keeps you in the confines of our protected & serene San Rafael Canal. Need a little more spice? You'll find it on our six mile long course that features the Marin Islands as a turning mark.
Let's say you are in for a bit more adventure. Then you should seriously check out the two special events we run each year. First up is the December 12th Terrapin Crossroads Long Strange Trip. The LST trip as it's known starts at Fort Baker just under the Golden Gate Bridge and finishes up 13 miles later at the 101 Surf Sports Shop. Then the paddlers head over to Terrapin Crossroads for a paddle party Terrapin Style. This race is meant for advanced paddlers only.
For something a bit more tame, but still on the wild side, you can try your hand at escaping San Quentin Prison by way of paddle. This marks the 4th annual Marin Brewing Company San Quentin Break Out Paddle race that sends paddlers 7 miles from San Quentin Prison to the 101 Surf Sports Shop. This race, too, is really meant only for racers with experience racing and looking for a bigger challenge.
