The 2015 Crissy Field Slalom Windsurfing season fired off in fine fashion this past weekend. With two days of 20 knot winds 16 heats of downwind action blasted across the waters of San Francisco Bay. (all photos Courtesy Olan Keneally who is pictured here blazing past the rock.)

With the steady winds of the bay all summer long it's a near perfect venue for slalom sailing. And this weekend was a double dose with the St. Francis Yacht Club serving up 3 races on Friday evening and then newly created Crissy Field Slalom Series doing the heavy lifting with 7 races on Saturday.

Crissy Slalom Series San Francisco Bay Windsurfing

Windsurfing racers everywhere owe a debt of gratitude to the St. Francis Yacht Club. With nearly 40 years of continuous support of Windsurfing racing they have been key in keeping the sport running. And what's old is new again. The recent resurgence in popularity has seen The Club reintroduce the slalom windsurfing format by carving out 3 dates from the Formula racing calendar for Slalom. Last Friday night's edition pulled off racing in both the A and B fleets. While the competition in the A fleet does represent some high level action it's the B fleet where the sports future lies. The club is encouraging fun recreational racers do come on down and give it a try. You do not need slalom gear just the desire to go fast.

If you want to drag race with your buddies on bump and jump gear this is the place to do it. The entry fee also entitles you to use most of the facilities for you and your family. That means after racing you can take a Sauna, and shower, and then retire to the grill room for burgers and beers with sweeping bay views at your tableside. There are still 2 races left (June 26, July 24) so it's not too late for you to join in on the action. Click here for more information.

Crissy Field Slalom Series

Saturday saw the kick-off of the Crissy Field Slalom Series. Again the day's event was centered on inclusive fun racing. With over 35 racers tuned and ready to ride it was great to see the fleet comradarrie as the day was shaping up to be a good one. We were stoked to be able to be a part of the action. Our Severne NCX Camless Free Race sail and JP Australia Super Sport made for a killer kit on the day. There are 3 more race dates (June 22, July 25th, aUG 22) up coming. All in all it was a rousing success for both events and we would not be surprised to see even more folks at the next races. We know we won't be missing them.
