Dominican University Service Day By Paddleboard Cleans Up The San Rafael Canal

Dominican University clean up by paddleboard

Dominican University clean up by paddleboard

It's nice to have good neighbors and we are stoked to have Dominican University right in our back yard.

This past October the 12th fifteen of the Universities students took to the San Rafael Canal as one of their many Service Days throughout the year. Led by Taylor Wong, a representative for the Social Justice and Outreach at Dominican University's Campus Ministry, we partnered up to coordinate a Day of Service opportunity for the University in conjunction with their Annual Family Weekend.

Paddleboard Clean up on San Rafael Canal

101 Surf Sports provided free Stand Up Paddleboard rentals and Kayak rentals to any and all of the universities students as long as they were willing to clean up trash as they paddled along. For some it was their first time ever on a paddleboard and for most the first time ever on the San Francisco Bay.

Amongst the normal candy wrappers and plastic bottles a complete Barbeque Grill was recovered along with multiple fruits – many of which we can't even identify. In all about 50lbs of trash was gathered to be put where it belongs - in the trash can. This was our third such cleanup effort of year. The first was our Earth Day Paddleboard Clean Up back in June, and then again as part of a September effort with the state wide Coastal Clean Up Day.

Thanks again to all the paddlers who took to the water to make the San Rafael Canal & San Francisco Bay a cleaner place to paddleboard and kayak.
