Race #2 in the Whole Foods Market Paddle Racing Series was a pink one with over $1000 raised to support the fight against breast cancer! (all photos courtesy Captain Ron Steinau)

Pink Paddle Power!

The day dawned more like a summer day than the normal November fare with blue skies and warm temperatures making for near perfect racing conditions. It was a hearty crew of Surfski's, 6 man and 1 man Outrigger Canoes, Stand Up Paddleboards, Prone Paddleboards, and Kayaks ready to take advantage of the nice weather all while helping raise money for the Susan G. Komen foundation. As the racers took to the water it was a sea of pink. Pink Tu-Tu's, pink scarves, pink hats, pink wigs filled the San Rafael Canal with the spirit of doing good by way of paddle.

As the racers gathered to get ready for the day they were greeted by steaming hot coffee and bagels courtesy of the folks at the San Rafael Whole foods Market. The race committee was quick to remind the assembled racers to support the businesses that support our sport, so head on over to Whole Foods Market San Rafael and show some love. Save some love however for Mamie's Pies! What better way to finish a race than polishing off a fresh pocket pie from Mamies. I'll tell you that better way – you wash it down with some suds courtesy of Marin Brewing Co. Thanks Brew Co! Beer not your thing? We forgive you, and that's where the Hint Water jumps in. With all the free Hint water you can drink, a tasty Whole Foods catered lunch topped off with all of the above your $20 entry fee sure goes a long way.

The boats rock the staring line

The day's action centered on the 2 and 6 mile race courses. With so many boats in the mix they even garnered their own start and what a start it was with the 2 He'e Nalu 6 man OC's powering down the line. Never tried Outrigger? Well let's fix that this Saturday November 23rd with a free Outrigger event. Just come on by at 11am and take a stab at paddling faster than you ever thought possible.

The stand up paddleboard fleet is ready and primed.
