With October's Indian Summer weather making its normal arrival in San Rafael it was paddle perfect blue skies and warm breezes for our second Fit to Inspire Stand up Paddleboard Fitness fun day. 


Athleta Supports Stand Up Paddleboarding Fitness

No paddleboard Experience? No Yoga Experience? No SUP Board? No problem. With OnBoardSup's Leigh Claxton leading the way first time SUP Fitness is truly something anyone can do - and do they did. After an on the dock tutorial on the basics of paddling the group was quickly up and paddling down the San Rafael Canal.

The cool thing about building an excercise program based on Stand Up Paddleboarding is what we like to call "Excercising by Accident". If your having a lot of fun it really doesn't feel like an excercise program at all. Cardio - check. Low to no impact - check. Non repetive - check. Full body - check. Balance training - yep that too. And it's that last one that science is proving to be a really important part of overall brain health as we age. If you don't use it - you lose it. 

SUP Yoga with Fit to Inspire

After a warm up paddle the group was off to start with some basic calistenics and to learn some SUP Yoga poses as they meandered toward the San Francisco Bay. Back at the shop a goodie bag from the  Athleta Team in Strawberry was joined by some Fit To Inpsire SWAG to make for pretty darn nice takeaway after a fun day on the water. Thanks Athleta!
