San Francisco Giants Stand Up Paddleboard Racing Season 2013 - Game On!
What goes as good with Baseball as Cracker Jacks and Peanuts? Stand Up Paddling that's what!
It's been 3 years now since the team at 101 Surf Sports has taken to the water in support of the San Francisco Giants Team we love so much. It's no coincidence that in that same exact time period the SF Giants team has won Two World Series and has had a winning percentage in excess of .750 when we paddle!
The whole idea started as part of the San Francisco Giants Marketing Team Joe Legasz's never ending goal of delighting and entertaining the Giants Fans. Don't get me wrong the team takes winning deadly seriously but making attending the game a memorable experience for all the fans is high on Legasz's list. And what better way to leverage the iconic waterside ATT Ball Park than some good healthy fun right on the water.
Stand Up Paddleboarding has a lot going for it. The sport supports a healthy and active lifestyle while providing a platform for fun for the whole family. Throw in some zany costumes and a sprint racing format and you have the ideal in-between inning fan entertainment. This past April 9th saw the start of our 2013 racing action kick off with Gregor 'White Shark' Blanco, Pablo ' The Paddlin' Panda', and Angel Paddler Pagan setting up for battle.
The race starts with a 100 yard sprint to the turning mark that saw the White Shark take a bite out the Panda at the turn that sent the Panda swimming. The move however cost him precious time and left room for Angel to make his move. As the two paddlers raced for the finish line karma rained down on the White Shark with Pagan passing on the inside making fish food of The Shark. Pagan cruised to the win while the Shark was left 'fin up' in the water.
The Season is off to good start and we'd love to see you at the races. Racing takes place usually in the breaks between the first and second innings. Check out our Giants Paddle Racing Calendar or see below to see the upcoming dates.
